Fat Cattle-For today'n market 241 head were yarded, which number again Droved in excess of trade requirements. Best bullocks brought from £8 10i to £lO 2b" 6d ; medium, £5 to £7 2s 6d ; cows up to £7 10s. I quote prime beef at 17s 6d to 20s per lOOlbs. Fat calves sold np to 30s. Fat Sheep.—Only a moderate supply came forward for to-day's market—viz.; 1935, 1835 being crossbreds, the balance merinos. The whole, with thf exception of a few pens, wore good to prime quality. Prices, viz. : Green crossbreds, 2a 5d to 2s 7d ; do merinos, 28 4d to 2s 5d ; do lambskins, Is 3d to Is lid ; dry skins, Is 3d to 4s ; pelts, 4d to Is. Tallow. —Demand brisk, and all lots coming to hand are readily piac i at—for prime mutton, 32s to 33a ; mixed, 30s to 31s ; medium, 26s to 28s; rough fat, 18s to 255.

Grain.—Wheat : The only tales at present being made are to the local millers, who are only pu-cbasing for immediate wants, and will only have first ck'ss samples. Consequently business is dull, especially for inferior samples, a great number of which are coming forward. I quote prime milling at 3s 9d to 3s lOd ; medium, 3s 4d to 3s 8d ; fowl wheat, 2s to 2s 9d. Oats: There is a demand for all good bright samples coming to hand for shipment, also good milling, which may be quoted at 2s 2d ; bright feed, 2s to 2s Id ; medium and discoloured, Is lOd to Is lid. Barley is inquired for, but up to date very few sales have been made. Quotations for malting are 4s to 4s 3d ; medium, 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; milling, 3s. Ryegrass Seed.—No transactions. CHRISTC.HORCH MARKETS At the Aldington live stock market on Wednesday (says the Press) large entries of all kinds of stock came forward. Attendance of buyers also a large one, but business throughout dull and value declining. Among the entry of fat sheep some very good lines of crossbred wethers were on offer, selling at from 16s to 18s 6d. Crossbred ewes were iu large supply, and sold at from 133 to 16s 6d. Merino wethers, in short supply, met with a dull enquiry, and prices ruled from 2d to 2|d per lb, according to quality. A very heavy entry of store sheep yarded ; sales very indifferent at declining rates. Lines of crossbred wethers at 14s to 14i 6d ; crossbred ewes, from 9s 6d to 13s Gd. sound mouthed merino ewes, at 6s 6d to 8s 4d. Aline of first cross ewes, 2 and 4 tooth, lis 4d ; merino wethers from 4s 9d to 7s 6d, etc., etc. Pigs—A large entry, principally porkers and baconers ; demand good, and late values quite upheld. Fat cattle -A large number on offer, principally good quality beef. In consequence of the previous heavy markets of sheep this class of stock were not offered until a lute hour (the last few pens were sold outside ; daylight having departed, and the moon giving a httle light advantage was taken of the circumstance), but this, coupled with the existing depression in this class of scock, helped still fuither the depression, and sales were made at low rates, viz., 16s to 193 per lOOlbs. But little business was done in the store cattle market. CHRISTCHTJKCH COR*. EXCHANGE. The Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 2nd inst : The corn market fer the week has met with somewhat of a check. The. indifference shown by buyers may be attributed partly to the difficulty in finding a ready outlet for whe»t, and the large quantity of damaged grain now in store that has been condemned as anfit for shipment, thus taxing the capacity of the various grain stores to the utmost ; indeed in some instances it has been found ' necessary to supplement the ordinary storage room by a return to the plan adopted a few years ago when there was a similar block of building stacks outside and wall covering them. Buyers, however, feel undesirous of continuing this risky "ay of making room, and are not at all eager to purchase, excepting for direct shipment to the neighboring colonies. The following are the week's quotations : Wheat—For sound dry samples 3s 3d, 3s 4d, and 3s sd, f.0.b., for Hunter's pearl and Tuscan respectively, with a ■lightly easier market. Oats—Milling, 2s 3d ; brisk demand for bright short frpd at 2s Is tc 2s 2d ; inferior ana Ui^co.u:\ti iuu«t with a little more attention at Is 9d to 9s, all f.o b. Barley—ln this cereal the tone of the market has been considerably modified ; malsters being nearly supplied, nothing but first class meets with inquiry at 3s 6d to 4«, although a very superior sample might command a shade higher. Grass Seed—The market for rye grass is markedly dull, buyers being very indifferent' as to purchase, and require considerable persuasion to maintain quotations, yiz., 3s to 3s 6d for farmers, and 4s machine dressed. Cocksfoot is fairly inquired for at 3|d to 4d, f.o.b. Lyttelton, for bright samples and well dressed. Potatoes—3os to 32s 6d at country stations ; demand slackening. Bntter and Chese—9d to 10£d for the former, and 4d to 5d for the latter. ENGLISH MARKETS. Londoh, April 29. The wheat market continues dull. Adelaide, ex store, 4Ss ; New Zealand ditto, 35s to 40s. Adelaide flour, ex store, 28s. Australian tallow Average quality beef, 36s 6d ; mutton, 395. Australian merino wools are ruling from the closing rates of last sales to Id lower. The New Zealand Loan aDd Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cable from their London branch : Wool The sales opener] on the 29th at <»verage decline of 5 per cent, on

last sale's closing rate, except crossbred, for which the market is firmer. The opening catalogue contained 8600 bales, but was not a representative one. Sales close on the 18th June. Wheat—Market quiet. Mutton is worth 40s per cwt, beef is worth 375. Leather—Market firm. Best sides, ll£d per lb. Frozen Meat—Market sluggish. Supplies of Continental mutton are heavy. Mutton weighing 701 b to 751 b per carcase is worth 6d per lb.
