POLITICAL.
Mr H. S. Fish, M, H.R. for Dunedin City South, addressed bis constituents on Tuesday night. There was a crowded meeting in the Pnncess Theatre. He criticised Major Atkinson’s recent address. He laid down the following as his programme for (he future, specially explaining that it was in no way to be considered as the combined Opposition platform : Ist, financial separation of the two islands and proper local government ; 2nd, abolition of the property tax ; 3rd, imposition of a progressive land and income tax ; 4th, reform of the Civil Service ; sth, reform of the Upper House ; 6th, bona fide settlement of the people on the land of the country’. The address lasted two and n-half hours. After a number of questions had been answered, a vote of confidence in Mr Fish was carried unanimously. The meeting got somewhat disorderly towards the close.
