MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Board’s office, Peel Forest, on the 18th iust. Present—Hon. J. B. Acland (Chairman), Messrs G. J. Denniatoun, R. Mackay, C. G. Tripp, and A. Hawdon. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. TENDERS. Tenders for the following works were opened : Contract No. 21—Clearing scrub, Orari Gorge Road : Walter Gager, £SO ; Dennis Coffey, £2B , Morgan Sweney, £23 ; John Erskiue, £22 8s ; William Scully, £2O; Edward Johns, £l9 19s ; Henry Mills, £l4 (accepted). Contract No. 23—Sale of timber _ on Cross Road, Peel Forest: William Crockerj £7 10s; Taylor and Flatraan, £lO (accepted). Contract No. 23—Metalling on Mount Michael Valley Road : Thomas Corkery, £l6O ; Stephen Courtney, £147 ; Michael Corkery, £135 ; Patrick Burke, £l3O ; Andrew Reid, £97 10s (accepted). CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was road and considered ; From the Property Tax office, intimating that the Commissioner of Crown Lands had been instructed to supply the Board with full particulars of all Crown lands sold during the past year, to enable them to make the necessary alterations on the rate roll. From Mr W. Badger, re “ Whole Law of New Zealand ” and soliciting an order for the work. From Messrs Austin and Kirk, forwarding price list of drain pipes. From Mr W. Wheelband, in reference to his claim for cost of replanting trees destroyed by frost. Resolved —“That the sum of £4O be paid to Mr Wheelband in full payment of his claim.” Mr Wheelband being in attendance accepted the cffer. MISCELLANEOUS. Mr C. G. Tripp intimated that this would be his last meeting on the Board, as he purposed visiting England for a short time. Resolved —“That the members of the Mount Peel Road Board, while regretting the temporary absence of Mr Tripp and acknowledging the great services which he has rendered to the district ever since the constitution of the Mount Peel Road Board, have heard with great pleasure that lie is about to pay a visit to the Old Country, as they feel convinced that it ivill invigorate him both in mind and body. They wish him health and every happiness during his visit, and they look forward with hope to his return with renewed energy' to his adopted borne.” The contractor for shingling the Mount Michael Valley Road made application to be released from his contract, as owing to the gravel-pits being full of water he could not carry out the work. Resolved cancelled, and the contract deposit re* turned.” The Overseer was directed to have the ruts on Mount Peel Road filled i with gravel, and to have the Clayton and
