Harmer, The first annual races under the auspices of the Woodbury Jockey Club came off yesterday (Easter Monday) in the school reserve occupied by Mr Allan Macdonald. The previous evening being so beautifully fine prognosticated a continuance of favorable weather, but as the day broke a heavy misty rain was falling, which continued till about 11 a.m., when it gradually cleared, resulting . in a fine afternoon. Mr M. E. Heatley farmed the gates, Mr Wadlow had the general license booth and Mr P. Georgeson the refreshment booth. The two latter during the day were kept very busily engaged in attending to the creature cemforts of their customers. The Geraldine Brass Band were in attendance on the ground, and materially enlivened the day's proceedings. to the unpropitiouj state of the weather the races were not as well attended as would have been the case had it proved otherwise, but those who were on the ground thoroughly entered into the day's sports. The main road to Woodbury from Geraldine presented a very animated scene, with equestrians and carriages on their way to the course. Shortly after one p.m. the bell rang for entries for the Maiden Plate, and the real business of the day commenced. Maiden Plate, of 10 sovs, for all horses that have never won public money. Towards the close each horse was about an equal distance from the other, and they passed the Judge's stand in that order. Woodbury Cup, a Handicap, of 20sovs., for all horses. One and a half miles. On passing the Judge's stand at the end of the first round Ladybird was leading. She shortly afterwards fell back, but speedily regained her position. On entering the straight, however, she fell out of the race, and it concluded as above. A protest was entered by Mr D. Denoon, the owner of Vinco, against Tongara, on the ground that that horse ran inside the course. The Stewards were to meet at 7 o'clock to consider the same. Handicap Hurdles, of 12 sovs., over six flights hurdles. One mile and a half. For horses that have never won public money in hurdle races. Entrance £l. Mr R. T. Button's Highflyer, 9st 51b (P. Highflyer, however, proved the better horse, and managed to outdistance his antagonists, coming in hands down, Star and Sankey following at a distance.
