CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS.
At the Addington Yards on Wednesday, a large entry of sheep, both fat and store, sent forward. The attendance of buyers was a fairly numerous one. The fat sh?ep were on the whole of very second rate quality. Batchers were very limited in their wants, and values suffered a decline, and a good proportion was passed unsold. Crossbred wethers sold at from 14s 6d to 18s 3d ; merino wethers, from 9s 6d to 12s, being from 2JM to 2|-d per lb, according to quality. Large lines of store sheep were an offer. The demand proved only middling, and more than one line left the yards unsold. Crossbred ewes sold at from 8s 6d to 12s, according to age ; lines of mixed sexes, 2 tooth, at 13s 6d to 14s ; merino wethers at 7s 3d to 9s 2d, and merino e.vcs from 4s to 6s 2d. A large entry of pigs sold at slightly easier rates. The entry of fat cattle was large, and the quality good. The demand, however, was but a dull one, and rates ruled very low ; steers sold from £5 17s 6d to £lO ; heifers from £5 to £7 15s, being from 16s to 20s per lOOlbs. according to quality. Business was very dull in the store cattle market. —Press,
