AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS
TEMUKA. Messrs Maslin and Sherratt report holding a sale of jewellery and fancy goods at their rooms, Temuka, on Saturday last, at which there was a large attendance, and satisfactory prices were obtained.
TIMARU. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday as follows : Horses—They have no improvement either in price or in the demand for draught horses to report, and although there are at present a number being exported to Sydney, it does not seem to have any effect on the market here. Good mares or geldings are saleable at fair values, but there are few of the right sort offering. For medium and light draughts prices have fallen very much during the last two months, and in fact they are almost unsaleable. A few young fillies were sold at their yards to-day from £l3 10s to £lB 10s, and they quote from £22 to £2B for good draughts, and from £l6 to £lB for medium sorts. They have an enquiry for good upstanding hacks ; these command good values. Sheep—A slight improvement in the demand for store sheep has taken place during the week, and although it is very difficult maintaining late rates, a good many lots have changed hands without the owners breaking their prices to any extent, A very full entry came forward to the Washdyke last Tuesday, but owing to harvest operations being still in full swing, buyers were unable to attend. They sold 400 cull merino ewes at 4s, 10*0 do at ss, 100 crossbred ewes and lambs at 12s, 100 crossbred lambs at 6s 9d, 140 merino ewes at ss, Fat sheep—Present prices are about equal to from 2-|-d to 2|d per lb. Cattle —They sold at the Washdyke last Tuesday a number of odd lots at the following quotations ; —Cows, from £1 10s to £4 10s; steers and heifers at £2, well forward heifers at £4 ss, do steers at £4 ss. Fat cattle at present are cheap. Prime beef may be quoted at about 17s 6d per 1001 b. Clearing sales—They held, together with Mr K. F, Gray, a clearing sale on Wednesday* on account of Mr Sam. Currie, at the homestead, Waitohi, and succeeded in selling almost everything that was offered, A number of horses, store and dairy cattle, far/u implements, etc,, found buyers at current prices.
