SYSTEMATIC ROBBERY.

The grocers of New York have, for the last nine months, it seems, been victimised to a considerable extent by systematic robberies, the authors of which were among their employees. The United States Courier relates that the grocers of a certain district have been perplexed by a gradual diminution in their receipts, although their trade prospered as usual, and there was no decrease in the number of their customer-. Quite accidentally one of the victim* discovered recently the clue to the enigma, and learned that a secret .society of grocers’ men had been founited in New York last spring, the members of which were hound by the most terrible oaths never to reveal tire nature of the Association. This Society was formed for the purpose of robbing employers, each member of it being compelled to bring a hundred and twenty-five dollars to the common fund every month. This sum he. was to purloin as best he could, and in whatever way circumstances might suggest. The money thus subscribed was paid over to the treasurer of the association, and constituted a capital for the benefit of its members. When any of them fell ill, he was allowed a weekly [tension until ho recovered ; if a member was anxious to start in business on his own account, he was provided with facilities for doingpso out of the ill-gotten funds ; if he wished to marry he was equally assisted. Happily for the grocers of New York, the existence of this secret society ha? now been revealed, and several cf those belonging to it have been arrested by the police.
