THE MEMBER FOR GERALDINE.

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —In our day and generation of science and enlighteament. men of ordinary education and talents in our district grasp as it were the movements of the heavenly bodies, and tell us the moon is a dead world and other interesting matters celestial, ani we thank Mr Acklasd and another for their efforts to instruct us by their lectures. We would also be much pleased if another gentleman who is able, if he chooses, to address his constituency on matters terrestrial would make his appearance to give an account of his stewardship in connection with this county in “ which we live and move and have our being.” If our representative was elected hon, member for this dead world (the moon), he could not have preserved more profound silence, even if he paced the solitary valleys, and weird gorges of that nocturnal luminary. I think it high time to remind our member that his constituency of Geraldine are not altogether extinct like the Tasmanian aboriginals although they may appear to be in a comatose state. They are only waiting to hear the ‘voice of the Charmer’ to rouse their energy and vigour, and will yet buzz about the ears of a representative, who has been “ weighed in the Ballance and found wanting,” with an unpleasant hum-m-m.—l am, etc., Humble Bee. Temuka, March 17, 1884.
