RAUKAPUKA LICENSING COMMITTEE.

On Tuesday last the quarterly meeting of the Rnukapuka Licensing Committee was held in the Geraldine Courthouse at noon. Present—Dr Fish, and Messrs Tripp and Maslin. Letters nf apology for non-attendance from Messrs Slack and Walker were read and accepted.

In the absence of the Chairman of Committee (Mr -Slack) Dr Fish was voted to the chair.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Inspector of Public Houses informed the Committee that several of tie hotels in the district had complied with the instructions of the Committee in regard to the supply of fire escape ladders. Having been laid up through illness lie had not been able to visit all the hotels in the district. It was decided that each hotel in the township should be supplied with two fire escape rope ladders, and the country hotels one ladder.

The police handed in a report in reference to the supplying of liquor to persons against whom prohibition orders had been issued in the Resident Magistrate’s Court. One of these in particular, who for some time past had been in the habit of getting drink, was specially commented on. At the request of the Committee several hotelkeepers in the town were present, and the Committee informed th> m that if it came before their notice again, and it could be proved that any of the prohibited persons had been supplied with drink by any of them they would be severely’ dealt with.

The report handed in by the police favorably commented upon the hotels in the district.

In regard to the additions and alterations to the Bush Hotel, Geraldine, the police reported that they were going on favorably, but were not yet completed, owing to their extensive nature over and above those contemplated by the Committee.

Mr Farrell, licensee of the hotel, who was present, asked for a further extension of time (that allowed by the Committee expiring that day). The Committee granted a farther extension of two months. The meeting then terminated.
