AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. TIMAKU. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday as follows : Horses—Then* is very little business in tfns class of stock at present in consequence of owners being busy with harvest operations. At their yards to-day there were only a few entered for sale, ami those were if a class in which there is at present no demand, and they have no transactions of importance to report. They report prices for fair good draughts from £2(l to £32 ; medium an i inferior sorts, from £IG to £lB ; light lirrnoss horses and hacks, from £8 to £ IG.
Sheep—The demand for store sheep is steadily incre; eng, and most of the lots offered tor sale are being placed without much trouble. Owners are generally endeavoring to keep back their stocks from markets for a few weeks in anticipation of better prices as soon as stubble feed will be ready, at which time they expect a big demand for the right class of sheep, both for breeding purposes and for feeding off. At the yards at Washdyke last Tuesday there was a-f hert entry. They placed a nice lot of about 3uo crossbred lambs at 9s sd, and privately daring the week they have disposed of, at satisfactory prices, 250 crossbred lambs, 1000 halfbred lamb', and 1200 crossbred ewes. Fat sheep —They quote values at nearly 2yd per lb. At Washdyke Yards th'-y sold 2(W cross bred ewes at 1 4s, 50 do at 13s 9d, and nrivately they have sold a small line consisting of 103 very prime crossbreds at a satisfactory figure.
(.'attic—The market is dull for store cattle, and iu fact but little attention is being paid to this class of stock, the few lots that are broug.it forward to their auction sales generally being of a very inferior description. These are almost unsaleable, and though holders are prepared to accept v.ry low values no one seems inclined to purchase. Good cattle are now very scarce in this district, having . been almost entirely superseded by sheep, and holders of well-bred steers and heifers will b* able to command their own values. They have sold privately a small line of 80 head mixed steers and heifers, at a satisfactory price. At the Washdyke Yards last Tuesday, a few odd lots were sold, but there is nothing of importanc# to report. Fat cattle—Present values are about 17s 6d per lOOlbs. At this quotation they sold a few small lots during tha week. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Adelaide, March 1. Wheat centilitres quiet at 3s lid to 4s, f.o.b.
