REMARKABLE ESCAPE FROM DEATH.

The Bainsdale Advertiser, Victoria, has been furnished with the particulars of a most remarkable and miraculous escape from drath which occurred at Bauchan during a thunderstorm. Mr Hampden, at a Gelantipy station, had entered the stable for the purpose of attending to a horse, and was stooping to putsome feed in a box, when lightning struck the corner of the building, and knocked both Mr Hampden and the horse down. The stillness in the stable attracted the attention of some of the young men near it, and when they went •in they found Mr Hampden, although sensible, unable to more. The lightning had struck him on the left side, just below the ribs, and had run down his left leg, inflicting serious burns, his clothing being completely burnt, and the left ankle and sole of the foot were very severely burnt. Although very badly injured, singular to state he is now progressing favorably towards recovery. The horse was uninjured, and jumped up as soon as the men entered the stable. A peculiar circumstance in connec tion with this affair is that although the right side was not struck by the fluid, yet there was a sore as large as a 5s piece on the sole of the right foot. Mr Hampden at first thought that the horse had kicked him, and was under the impression that bis leg was broken. He describes the agony he suffered for a time as something frightful. A knife which he had on him bore marks of having been struck in four different places, and the buckle of the belt; he had on was twisted out of shape.
