London, Jan. 28. The ship City of Lucknow has are rived at Gravesend. All who were on board the Simla have been saved. ,

A fearful hurricane has passed over England and caused immense destruction to property, the havoc in some places being complete. Numerous wrecks have occurred on the coasts, and it is feared some loss of life has resulted. Gordon Pasha has left for Khartoum without an escort. He takes £50.000 in gold. The survivors from the ship City of Lucknow allege that it was while attempting to avoid another vessel that the collision with the Simla took place. The relief of the garrison at Sennanr has failed, and El Mahdi, attended by 40,000 of his followers, left Obeid on the 16th inst.

Flowers and Ulyett, two well-known cricketers, have joined the English cricketing team which visits Australia. The team is a very strong one. A powerful tribe are willing to open the Souakim Berber route.

Sir Henry Parkes, writing to the Pall Mall Gazette, insists on the annexation of New Guinea as being necessary to prevent lawless assaults upon the Natives.

It is reported that 400,000 sovereigns will be shipped to Australia on Thursday next. Jan. 29. A serious catastrophe has occurred on the river Mersey, resulting in the wreck of the steamer Juno. Twentyfive passengers and the crew were drowned.

The Arab Sheikhs have summoned Khartoum to surrender.

Sydney, Jan. 29.. The sale of the New Zealand Stud and Pedigree Co.’s yearlings took yesterday. Nine were sold, and three? withdrawn. The total realised was 2500 guineas. The highest price paid was 1200 guineas by the Hon. James White, for a Musket—Onyx colt. The principal buyers were Messrs White, Fenelly, Long, and Kelso. The average obtained for the nine horses sold was 277 guineas. The cricket match between the Australian Eleven and Fifteen of New South Wales was resumed to-day. The eleven continued their first innings, which closed for 272, and the stumps were then drawn for the day. Later; At the cricket match, Australian team v. New South Wales, today, the former lost six wickets for 827 runs when the stumps were drawn. The match was therefore drawn.
