RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Temuk a—Monday, Jan. 28, 1884. I [Before D. Id wood and IT. H. Barker, Esqs., J.P's.] AISUSIVE LANGUAGE. William Collins was charged that with on the 26th of January he made use of abusive language in a public place. Constable Morton stated that on the evening of the 26th the accused was nndor the influnnce of drink in the town, and when the constable told him to clear out he made use of the language complained of. He was fined 10s. FALSE PRETENCES . William Collins was again charged with having obtained goods by means of false pretencps from Mr Miles. H. M. Miles stated accused came into his brother's shop and presnnted the order produced, and witness gave him some goods for it. Deceased said it was perfectly right. He gave him goods fo the amount of £3 2s. Witness saw Mr A. M. Clark, who denied that he had signed the order or knew anything about it,

The accused pleaded guilty, and said he wis drunk at the time. The Bench said that as there wap no previous convictions against accused they would not commit him for trial. He was sent to gaol for one month with hard labor. CIVIL CASES. J. Brown v. J. Duncan —Claim L 7 Judgment for the amount claimed [and costs.

J. i>i-"\vii v. Henry Huband —Claim £5 7s 2d. An order was made that the amount should bo paid at the rate of 10s pei per week. E. H. Brewer v. H. Kahu —Claim £3 16s 6d. Judgment for amount claimed and costs, George Levens v. Geo. Lynch— Claim £1 10s. This amount was due for attending to a horso. A set off of 10s was put iu. The case was an amusing: cue. The plaintiff denied the set off, and the defendant thought he had been charged too much for the horse as there was no good done for it. Ultimately the Court allowed the set off and gave judgment for £l. The Court then adjourned.
