CHRISTCHURCH. Messrs Robert Wilkin and Co. report : ,

At the Addington yards on Wednesday, owing to the previous heavy rain, only a small supply of sheep came forward, but the trade having taken advantage of last week’s heavy supply, there was very little competition for the various lots yarded, and in consequence a large proportion (not reaching owners’ limits) was turned out unsold. Fat cattle—Large entry to hand, the quality being above the average, but the supply was in excess of the requirements of the trade, and we have to quote a further drop in the price of beef. We sold prime crossbred wethers at 17s 6d ; ditto ewes at 11s 6d ; fat lambs at 9s ; fat steers, equal to an average of 18s per 1001 b. Sheepskins, fat, hides, etc.—The supply of skins this week was unusually small for this time of the year, only about 1200 skins being catalogued, which, however, were cleared at fair prices. About 40 bags of fat, and a few casks of tallow were also disposed of. Our sales comprised— Crossbreds at from Is to 3s 9d ; merinos, Is lid to 5s 9d ; lambs, Is 5s to 2s Id ; pelts, 4d to Is Id.
