MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Road Board office, Peel Forest, on Friday, 18th inst. Members present—The Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs R, Mackay, G. J. Dennistoun, and J. Heney. MINUT3S. The minutes of the last meeting were read confirmed. EXPRESSION OF APPROVAL. Mr Dennistoun said he wished to draw the attention of the Board to an omission made in neglecting to record the comment made by the Chairman at the last meeting when the notice was received from the Geraldine County Council of Mr C. G. Tripp’s resignation as a member of the Council, He (Mr Dennistoun) would wish to see placed upon the records of the Board an expression of approval of Mr Tripp's services to the district during his terra of office as Chairman of the Council, and would therefora move —‘That the members of the Mount Peel Road Board, on behalf of the ratepayers of the Mount Peel Riding, desire to place on record their warm approbation of the services rendered by C. G. Tripp, Esq., as the Chairman of the Geraldine County Council since the Act was brought into force within the County, and express their regret at his having resigned his seat on the Council.’ The reso'ution being seconded by Mr Mackay was carried unanimously, CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered; — From the Mackenzie County CQunoil, asking if the Board would share the cost of a footbridge over the Opihi at Fairlie Creek. The Board consented to the work being done, the extension to be carried out by their Engineer as suggested by the Council. From the Property Tax Department, forwarding the valuation rod of Crown lands in the Mount Peel district. From the Chief Surveyor, Christchurch, informing the Board that the Crown Grants of sections 27300, 32817 and 22889 have been issued, therefore the dedication of the new road line through these sections will have to be done under the provisions of the Public Works Act. The Clerk was directed to apply to the owners, asking if they would sign a conveyance of the road lino, and if so to instruct the Boards solicitor to draw up the necessary deed. From the Inspector of Sheep, asking for a lithographed map of the district. The Clerk stated that he had stating that the map of the district ha never been lithographed, From Mr G, G, Tripp, suggesting the advisability of petitioning the Geraldine County Council to remit the tax on sheep dogs, limiting the number to two, and that all dogs kept for the purpose of killing rabbits should be free from tax, Resolved—‘That the Geraldine County Council he written to recommending that the tax on dogs kept solely for the purpose of killing rabbits bo reduced to one shilling if certified by the Inspector that such dogs are kept solely for that purpose .’ From Mr J. Hinkley, drawing auction to the fence on the fymgitata bridge approach, and requesting that new fence be erected* Resolved — 11 That tenders be called for the work, apd that the Geraldine Road Board he informed of the same,’ TUB POUND, Mr Newman, poundkefper, handed in the sum of £l3, being proceeds of sale of impounded stock, and asked the Board to fence in the small piece of land between the Pound and the Rangitata Terrace road. The application for the fencing was not entertained.
