SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
WirroHi Flat. A meeting of this Committee w»i held on Monday, the Bth in6t. Present— Messrs Talbot (Chairman), Moore, Scott, Andergon and Seatoo. A letter wai read from the Board of Education asking the Committee to obtain a report as to the probable cost of roofing the school buildings with iron. It was resolved to ask Mr Joseph McClintock to furnish an eatiraate. A circular re nomination of candidates for the vacancies that will shortly take place on the Education Board wag read. It was decided to nominate Mr R. A. Barker for re-election. The Chairman stated that Mr Gilmour had made a complaint to him about the distribution of tha prizes. Mr Gilmour considered it unfair that prizes were given to some who did not pass, and that it was also unfair that pupils who had taken two years to pass a standard Bhould have a prize while oOtrs who passed in one year had got none. It was acknowledged that a few mistakes bad been made, but it would be impossible to make any corrections now. Mr Moore asked how it wag that no report of the children's sports had appeared in the papers. The Chairman said that Mr Campbell had promised to furnish a report, bul it appeared ha bad omitted to do so. The Chairman wag instructed to request an explanation. Kakahit. The monthly meeting of this Committee was held on the 7th inst. Present—Messrs Cochrane, Leary, Tindall, Beattie and Kelland. A letter was received from the Board asking to be furnished with the Committee's remarks on the report of the recent examination of the school. From the same re election of two members of the Board. The latter matter was left to the new Committee to deal with. The quarterly attendance return to 31st Dec. showed the number on the roll to be 76, and the working average 57. The ActingInspector's report on the Standard examinotion was also received, likewise a letter from Mr Cooke explaining certain matters in connection with the examination. The following is a copy of the report:— Standard "VI., presented 1, passed 1 ; Standard V., presented 8 ; passed 6; Standard IV., presented 12, passed 0 ; Standard 111, presented 9, passed 2; Standard 11., presented 7, passed 5; Standard 1., presented I], passed. 9; belov the Standards 26; percentage of passes 47.9. Present classification— Standard VI, passed 1 ; Standard V., passed 6 ; Standard IV., p«s«ed 2 ; Standard 111., passed 14; Standard 11., passed 15 ; Standard 1., passed 12. Remarks. —The work of this school in the Fourth ana Third Standards is thoroughly unsatisfactory ; out of 21 candidates only 2 passed. The Second and First Standards did fairly. The Sixth and J? ifth made a fair percentage of passes, but many of thetn were weak. The general tone of the school must be improved. (Signed) John Gurr, Inspector." It wag -resolved—"Tnat as the children have already had a month's holiday, it is not desirable to give harvest holidays." It was resolved —'' That Mrs Constable be let the cleaning of the school for trre.curvrent year at the usual salary, yiz., £l2 per AQ&uau"
