TIMAETT. .•; Messrs Maclean and Stewart; report for the past week ending Saturday as follows : ,• \( ■; Horses—A .small' entry of horses was to-day booked at their yards for sale, and with few exceptions the quality was poor. They report a dull.demaudtor almost all classes, and few lots changed hands. Prices are much the same as last week, ut which quotation they sold severul lots. Sheep—The .demand is very brisk for aJmost-all kindß of store sheep} nod prices realised are values. The have held no auction sales during the, week, but privately they have sold'2ooomerino wethers and 500 merino wethers at satisfaciory prices; also, 200 two tooth crosshreds at good values. Fat Sheep—Prices are about equal to 3d per lb, for prime quality mutton, at which quotation they have sold several small lines. Cattle—A good demand exists for wellgrown cattle, and! three-year-old steers and heifers are saleable at from L 5 to L 6. Young cattle are uot in any great demand at present. From 25s to 30s can be got for yearlings, and from L2 10a to L 3 for two-year-olds. Fat cattle are worth from 22s 6d to 55s per 1001 b for prime quality beef. THE TIMARU WOOL SALES. The first of this season's series of wool sales in Timaru was held last Friday by the N.Z.L. and M.A. Company., Messrs Robert Wilkin and Co., Messrs Maclean and Stewart, Messrs Miles,"Archer and Co., and the N.M. and A. Company. There was a large attendance, and the Dunedin and Cliristcliurch buyers mustered in force in addition to all the local men. The late unfavorable weather delayed the delivery of a quantity of the wool, 'hence the small cataioguei). Biddings were fair'y brisk, and, considering the condition- and getup.of the wools shown, the prices realised show an improvement of fully one half-penny to one penny pi;r pound above ' the late Christchurch sales; MessrsßobertWilkin and,Co.report : At .their wool stores they held their first sale of the seaeoi? on Friday, all the buyers" buyers in the district, aa well as the representatives of Christchurch' and Dunedin firms, being present. Spirited biddings were the order of/the day, resulting in, a clearance of 140 bales catalogued. - Considering the class of wool, the prices were a shade'over Chriutchurch prices. ~ ~ - ! Messrs Maclean and Stewart report having held their first wool sale this season on Friday at their rooms.; There wan a fair attendance of buyers principally from Christchjrch, Dunedin being also represented, and prices obtained for most of the lots were good values. They catalogued 160 bales and 105 sacks wool, und sold 123 bales and the whole of the bags. The National Mortgage and Agency Co. of N.Z. The wheat market is firm. To-day's quotations 4s 4d, f.o.b. at out ports, and 4s 6d at Adelaide. Flour, town brands, LlO to LlO 5s ; country do, L 9 10s to L 9 15s. Freights to London, steamer, 45s w nominal ; do, sailing, 35s ; freights to United Kingdom from Adelaide, sailing, 37s to 40s ; do, from out ports, 40s to 425.
