MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of the Mount. Peel Road Board was field in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Saturday last. Present —Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs 0. G. Tripp, J. Heuey, R. Mackay and G. J. Dcnnistoun. MINUTES.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. TENDERS. The following tenders were received and considered :—- No. 16 Contract, forming Jefcoalo’s road, Raincliff— Frank Mulloy, £347 ; Andrew Reid, £320 ; Thomas Corkery, £230 (accepted), No. 17, repairing Upper Rangitata road—Stephen Courtney, £SO ; Joseph Wharton, £45 (accepted). CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, m reply to the Board’s application for having the gravel reserves, which have been fenced and planted, vested in the Board, stating that the application had been forwarded to the Government with the recommendation that the request be complied with, upon the understanding that a sufficient area be left in each reserve to provide gravel for the roads. In reference to Mr Blair’s application for having the stones picked off the road reserve along his fences to enable him to grub up gorse, it was resolved that tenders be called for picking the stones on roads where gorse is growing, and that notice be given to Mr Blair that a tender will not be accepted unless all the gorse cuttings have been cleared off and burnt before next Board meeting. INTERVIEW. Mr A. Reid had an interview with the Board to ask for a refund of money paid by him in procuring rock for metalling the Spur road. Resolved—“. That the consideration of the matter lie deferred till next meeting of the Board.” THE COUNTIES ACT , Messrs W. Pdstlethwaito, W. U. Black, and W. Deßenzy, members of the Geraldine Road Board, attended by invitation from the Board for the purpose of considering matters connected with the Geraldine County. After a lengthened discussion it was proposed by Mr G. J. Deunistoun, and seconded by Mr J. Heney—“ That in the opinion of this meeting it is desirable at the present time that the Counlies Act should, as regards the Geraldine County, be suspended, and that inasmuch as a petition to promote this object is in course of signature, this meeting commends the said petition to the inhabitants and ratepayers of the Mount Peel District.”

The resolution was carried, Mr 0. G. Tripp only voting against it. Mr Tripp afterwards proposed tlie following resolution, which was not put to the meeting owing to it not being seconded, viz., “ That the Counties Act being in force is of great service to the County, and that no action be taken to suspend the same.” The meeting then terminated.
