POSTAL SERVICE AT HILTON.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I was really astonished at the result of the recent meeting at Hilton to discuss matters relating to th* postal '"' service in that and other townships in the district, I would point out, Sir, that if a mail service via Temuka were established, instead of, as it is at present, wo Geraldine, letters from the latter
place directed to Pleasant Valley (only . about two miles distant), Gapes' Valley • and Hilton, would have to be posted at Geraldine the day before the mail is
'■'. made up at Temuka, and afterwards sent '„,. in a roundabout way to their destination. The service as at present performed is giving every satisfaction, but if it is more frequently required, arrangements . could be effected by the postal authorities whereby the wishes of the residents of Geraldine, Gapes' Valley and Hilton could be carried out. Trusting that the
residents in these districts will pause
ere they commit themselves by signing ,', a petition for a mail service via Temuka, —I am, etc, Pleasant Vallky.
