TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.
! The; monthly meeting of* the above Board was held last Thursday. PresentMessrs Wm. Moody (Chairman). J H Gutter, J S Gibson, K F Gray, J Talbot, E Elworthy, J, Kelland, M Jonas, E Acton and A Hayes. i Among the correspondence a letter was read from Messrs Stout and Co., solicitors, Dunedin, enclosing notice under section 227 of the Harbors Act 1878, of Messrs McKenzie and Finlay's intention to sue the Board for £1216 6s sd, and further st.ating.that they had forwarded a copy of the notice to Messrs Perry and Perry, the Board's solicitors.
The, Chairman said that after consulting with Messrs Perry and Perry, it had been decided to proceed with the case. . Messrs Priestman Bros., London, wrote notifying 'that they had shipped to the Board's order, the sand bucket and 12 spare tines. ) ; ,■.■>■;
From the Railway Department, forwarding the return of wharfage receipts for the month ended September 15th and October 13th, the amounts being £l9B 2s and £l9B 5s 6d respectively. Also informing theis Board that the General Manager of Railways would be down shortly, and itauld confer with the Board on matters relating to wharf management, etc. 1 The standing Committee reported that they had offered the Titan to Mr M Kennedy , (Greymouth) for £4300, but he had declined to purchase. The Engineer reported that the maintenance time for Breakwater contract No. 4 had expired and recommended the refund of the deposit with the exception of some £SO, which would be required to execute some necessary repairs which had not been effectedowing to bad weather. The contractors .'for Breakwater contract No. 5 had commenced work and 26 feet of foundation blocks .were laid. Wharf contract No, 6 could not be gone on with till ifonback piles were received. Wharf contract No. 7 (T. Wharf) was well advanced, and . nearly ready for decking. He had received communication from the contractors for the ironbark piles which he laid before the Board. The dredging along the wharf was proceeding satisfactorily. ! Messrs Kincaid and McQueen wrote stating that satisfactory progress was being made with the building of the locomotive crane, but that work had been delayed somewhat through the nonarrival of some important parts from Home.
, i The manager of the Landing Service reported that 27 vessels had arrived during the month, that the gross earnings or the Service were £2,33 16s 3d and the riet £156 15s 6d.
i The Harbor Master reported on the sCrew moonig, and reported some suggestions re the Lighthouse made by the Lighthouse Inspector, some of which were adopted and the remainder referred to the Standing Committee. : ; The Board went into Committee to consider a letter from the Bank of New Zealand regarding the floating of the loan, and on Resuming ordinary business again, passed accounts amounting to £1690 'ikts Id. The meeting then terminated.
