The following have been completed since last meeting of the Board, viz, : Waitohi road, F Mulloy ; Moore’s road, A Guldau ; Orari Station road, J Webb ; Shaw’s road, B Trumper ; Totara street, A McCool ; Concrete culvert, T Herlihey ; Barker’s road, Messrs Gaiger and Fly. 1 have taken levels near Mr Bayley’s, which prove there is not sufficient fall for a culvert. I have therefore called for tenders for an open ford with outlet drain on Mr Holmes’ land, for a distance of four chains, and given the agents notice to this effect. Mr Buyiey has undertaken to deepen the drain on Campbell’s road to the large culvert, which will require to be lengthened 15ft in stone. ‘ I have given the Steward of Reserves a written notice of the Board’s intention to take shingle for Middlemiss’ road out of the Education Reserves, under the Public Works Act. I should advise that an area of two acres be taken for a permanent gravel pit. ‘I have made arrangements with Mr Howe to cut a drain on bis freehold to prevent flood water damaging the Rhubarb road.
‘Mr Walker has pointed out (he dosirahilily of diverting the water from the formed road below the homestead, through his freehold, and requested me to lay the matter before the Board.
‘Re Stephenson’s application, To form this road the distance applied for would cost, for labor and material, £—. The work is very necessary to give access to the land, which is being improved. ‘ Re Breadley’s footbridge— The portion of tiie old bridge left standing (about 80ft) is in such a shakey condition that it would not be advisable to extend it by building new work on to it. If the Board decide in reinstating this crossing for stock and foot passengers a new bridge will be necessary. The length required would be 200 ft which, with a 3ft roadway, would cost say ‘ Mr Wigley has made an application to have the road improved and drains cleaned out on the road leading down the Opihi river bed. I have attended to the road and left the drains for the consideration of the Board, as the road is in no way affected by the drains. ‘Mr Jfitzgerald has panted up the reserves under his contract. I have therefore certified to the balance due. —I an, etc., ‘ William Shiers, ‘Overseer to the Board. *To the' Chairman Geraldine B-oad Board.’ Re Campbell’s road, Middlemiss’ road, and drain on Mr Howe’s freehold. —Tire Board approved of the action which had been taken.
