AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT.

GBEALDINE.

Messrs J. Mundell and Co, report sales of stock, etc., for the week ending Saturday, 10th Nov., 1888 : At the Geraldine monthly stock sale on Wednesday last the day was fine, and from 7 o’clock in the morning stock was being yarded. However, when the yarding was completed the quantity *»{ stock was not much larger than on previous occasions, but the attendance of purchasers, vendors, and the public generally was larger than for some time past, as there must have been not less than 170 persons moving about prior to starting the sale, from Ashburton and the surroundingdistricts. Consequently the keenest competition was evinced iVthe purchase of all lines of stock submitted, and higher prices were given than we have been accustomed to for several months. With only a few exceptions every lot found a purchaser at prices considerably over owner’s reserve, which is extremely satisfactory after the dull sales we have lately tided over. The total yarded for the day’s sale was :—Sheep, 279; cattle, 110 ; horses, 18. Prices realised were : —Pat sheep (shorn), 12a ; crossbred hoggets (in the wool), 14s 8d ; crossbred ewes (in the wool) w’thdrawn at 14s 3d. Cattle— Cows (fat), L 4 15s to L 6 10s ; forward store steers, L 5 17s 6d ; 2-year-olds, from L2 13s to L 3 ; yearlings, Ll 15s to L2. In this line the supply was not equal to the demand. Cows, springing and in full profit, L 3 10s to L 4. Horses—Draughts, L 25 to L 26 ; hacks and light harness, L 3 to LlO. At our Rooms, Geraldine, on Saturday the sale was dull and attendance small, owing, we suppose, to so large a number visiting the Christchurch Show. Potatoes are considerably reduced in value, 3s 6d per sack being the highest price obtainable. Other lines of produce cimilar to last quotations.
