AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.

Messrs Robert Wilkin and Co. report :

At the Aldington yards on Wednesday, 5325 sheep, 554 head of cattle and 101 were offered. Fat sheep— Prime drafts of wethers sold at an advance of fully 2s per head compared to last week's prices. A. large entry oi fat lambs found buyers at hst week's rates. Fat Cattle—A fair supply yarded, Prime pens of steers futche and average 'if 25s per 1001 b ; second quality ditto from 22s to 245. We sold on account of various clients— Prime crossbreds from 15s 6d to 19s, prime ditto and heavy weight shorn at 15s, merino wethers at 14s and ]ss, fat lamhs from 7s to 12s 3d according to quality ; fat steers from L 7 to L 8 10s ; spinners from L 6 12s 6d ; pigs large, at 295; ditto small, at 12s aucJ 14s, Wool, Sheepskins., Hide?, and Tallow. —Wo offered at our Thursday's sale 18 sheepskins, 51 hides, 58 bugs fat, and about half-a-dozen bales scoured and

We soil country crossbreds at is, 2s 7d, 2s 9!> 3s 4d, 4s, 4s Bd, up to 5s ; country merino, 2s Id, 2s 7d. 2s 10.1, 3s fid, 4-s, 4s 2d, 4s 9d, to 5s 4d ; butchers' crossbreds, 4s 6d, 4s lid, ss, 5s 41, and 5s sd, the latter price for a line of firstcross skins of Mr H. Marsh's ; butchers' merinos, 4s 3d, 4s 7d, 5s Id, 5s 3d, and for Messrs Garforth and Lee's line of heavy well-grown merinos we got 5s 6d. Fat sold at about last week's rates, viz., for inferior 2d per lb, up to 3d per lb for well-saved dry from the country. Wool—We cleared out at from for coarse crossbed up to 7d per lb; scoured pieces, 5d to and meiino pieces 3d to 4|d per lb. Pelts— For seconds we obtained Is 6d to 2s 5d per dozen. Hides—Green, drysalted, 3fd ; wet-salted, 3|d ; cut and damaged, Calfskins—3fd per lb.

CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE

The Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 19th inst.

Business has not shown much activity duaing the past week, and few sales cf consequence have taken place, buyers show'ng no disposition to operate except for immediate requirements at former rates.

Wheat—Good milling samples, 3s lOd to 4s per bushel, delivered at Christchurch ; second quality, 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; chick wheat, 2s to 2s 3d per bushel.

Oats—Prime milling, 2s Id to 2s 2d per bushel, f.0.b.; bright short feed, Is lid to 2s ; inferior discolored, Is 8d to Is lOd per bushel. Barley—First-class malting, 4s 3d to 4s 6d per bushel; second quality, 3s 6d to 3s 9d per bushel ; feed,. Is lid to 2s 2d.

Grass Seed—Farmers' samples, 3s 3d to 3s 9d per bushel ; machine-dressed, 4s to 4s 3d per bushel ; cockfoot, to 4|d per lb. Potatoes. —25s to 27s 6d, at country stations.

Cheese and Butter.—4|d to 5d for the former, and 7d to Sd for the latter.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

Melbourne, Oct. 17

Goldsbrough and Company (limited) held their opening wool sale for the season to-day. There was a crowded attendance of Horne and foreign buyers, and an active competition was experienced. Inferior, to good greasy wool realised from to life! ; good scoured sold up to 20fd. Tha New Zealand Loan »nd Mercantile Agency Company (limited) hold their first sale for the season to-morrow, when about 2000 bales will be catalogued.

Oct. 18

The New Zealand Loan and Mercan - tile Agency Company (limited) held their opening wool sales for the season to-day. There was a crowded attendance of Home and foreign buyers. The catalogue was of a fairly well representative character, and comprised 1130 bales, of which all but 15 bales were sold. The competion was very brisk, and the prices realised very satisfactory to growers. Greasy wools sold up to 12-|d, and scoured up to Prices generally were about equal to rates ruling at the close of last season. Owing to a considerable improvement which has been manifested in London advices, the prospects of the Melbourne sales are exceedingly good, and it is known that extensive buying orders are on hand. The freight on wool to London is quoted here as follows : Greasy per lb, and scoured |p.

ENGLISH MARKETS-

London, Oct. 16.

Adelaide wheat, ex store, is unchanged at 445, and New Zealand ditto at 38s 6d to 40s 6d ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 325. Australian tallow—Best beef, 30s ; best mutton, 41s 6d.
