GERALDINE FLAT SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Geraldine Flat School was held in the schoolroom on Thursday, the 80th ultimo. The members present were — Messrs J Bell (Chairman), Shaw, Kelman, McShane, South, Bose, and McQuillan.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The following correspondence were read

From the Education Board advising the payment of £5 for shingling and other improvements.

The action was approved of. From the janitor, asking for an increase of £3 a year, owing to the extra work occasioned by the recent addition. After some discussion, it was proposed by Mr McShane, seconded by Mr Kelman and carried—' That the Committee, while acknowledging the justice of the claim, regret that the funds at their disposal prevent them from complying with the demand, but are prepared to sanction an increase of two pounds (£2), making the salary for the future £9 a year,’ The teacher's report was read and approved. The average attendance for the past month was 35. It was resolved that a bucket, etc.,, be procured for the use of the school. Mr Shaw proposed, Mr South seconded, and it was carried unanimously ‘ That two rows of trees be planted on the east end of the school ground, and that th§ whole plantation be fenced.’ Messrs Shaw and McShane were appointed a sub-Committee to see the work carreid out.

Accounts amounting to £6 9s 6d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned to the last Thursday in September

Before dispersing it was resolved to start a Mutual Improvement Society, to meet fortnightly, the teacher (Mr Cooke) agreeing to read a paper on Thursday the 13th of September.
