MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Road Board office, Peel Forest, on Fiiday the 17th inst. Present Messrs C. G. Tripp (Chairman, pro tern), L Heney, G. J. Denniatoun, audß. Mackny. MNIUTE3. Thu minutes of ths previous meeting were read and confirmed. TENDERS, Tenders foi contract JNo. 10—Improving Sidling cutting in Peel Forest was opened as follows Thomas Corkrey, £BS ; Patrick Burke, £6l 6s (accepted). CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered ; -
From the Geraldine County Council asking that in the event of the Council having to pay half cost of repairing the Rangitata traffic bridge, would the Board be prepared to contribute £IOOO out of their funds towards the cost of such repairs ; failing which the Council will consider the question of levy ing a separate rate on the district. The Board declined to entertain the application. ‘ From the Geraldine Road Board in re’ ference to having the road from Geraldine to the Opuha river declared a main road, and stating that the Board see no necessity for having the road in question declared a main road.
From the same forwarding a copy of the resolution passed by the Board in reference to the Rangitata station road. The clerk was directed to acknowledge the receipt of both letters. From MrT. W. Merchant explaining the condition upon which the delivery of the timber from the Opuha bridge was held over.
The explanation was considered satis factory. From Mr G. Bolton offering to supply the Board with poisoned grain for th« destruction of small birds. The offer was declined.
From the Hon. J B AAcland granting permission to take the road back on his land on top of the cutting in Peel Forest. From W Postlethwaite, Esq. M.H.R., stating that the number of votes to be excercised by County electors, has been provided for by the Counties Act Amendment Act now before the House.
From Mr J. H. Sutter, M.H.R., in reference to the same matter.
From Mr G J Hamilton requesting the Board to form the road leading to his land at Clayton. The Overseer was instructed to inspect the road and to report at next meeting ; also to apply to the Chief burveyor to have the present Clayton bridle track covered by survey. From Mr Thomas Blair requesting that the road leading from his laud to the main Peel Forest road be shingled. Resolved—‘That the Overseer report On the road at next meeting.’ From Mr J Hitch in reference to procuring a road giving access to his land, and recommending the opening up of a new toad from the Spur road down to the ridge through the Tiraaru Borough Council reserve. Resolved—* That the Board cannot undertake the opening of a new road as there is a surveyed road to the section, which they are prepared to make passable if required to do so.’ From Mr C Q Tripp requesting to be allowed to cut a water-race through gravel reserve 1484. The request was granted. From Mr T W Merchant reporting that the Opuha bridge has been satisfactorily completed.
Resolved —‘That the clerk write to the Chairman of the Plantation Board calling his attention to the fact that one of the reserves advertised for letting is already planted, and to request that it be withdrawn.’
ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £478 8s 7d were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned.
