AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS,
QEBAIDIKB. Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales of stock, etc., for the week ending August 11th, 1583 ; We have had no sales of stock by auction during the week. Privately we sold the following lines, viz.:—Two cows, springing, £5 5s ; two harness horses, at from £lO to £3O. We find a good demand exists for two-year-old store cattle. Fat sheep and cattle do not seem to be as keenly sought after as was expected. We held two auction sales of drapery during the week on account of Mollison, Duthie and Co., both being well attended, and exceptionally high prices realised for the goods sold. Competition of the keenest sort prevailed during the sales. TIMAEU. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week ending Saturday as follows; Horses—A smaller entry than usual was to-day booked for sale, about 35 draught and light harness having been submitted at auction. They have to report an active enquiry for good young draughts, especially for young mares, These are commanding good prices if suitable for exporting. At the yards to-day the quality, with a few exceptions, was poor, and prices much the same as last week’s, viz., from L 22 to L3O for fair good draughts, LlB to L2O for medium sorts, ordinary hacks and light harness horses from L 8 to Ll 4. They have sold privately during the week, to a buyer for the Sydney market, a number of really first-class mares, at very satisfactory prices, and owners of this class can find a ready market at remunerative rates.
Sheep—The demand for store sheep is quiet, and but few transactions are taking place. They have no sales of importance to report. Fat sheep are keeping at full values, prime mutton being worth about 2£d per ]b, at which quotations they have placed privately several lots,
Cattle—There is little enquiry for store cattle, feed being scarce, and few lots are being offered. They quote values much the same as when they last reported. Fat cattle are in good demand, prime beef being worth from 22s 6d to 25s per lOOlbs. Weol, Skins and Tallow—At their usual fortnightly sale, held last Wednesday, they catalogued about 800 skins, 12 bags wool, and a number of bags and casks fat. They report then usual attendance of buyers, and a fair competition for the different lots, all of winch were sold at the following prices, viz,, full woolled crossbred skins, 3s 9d to 4s 5d ; medium and farmers’ mixed lots, from 2s 7d to 8s 3d ; sundry bags mixed and inferior wool, at 4|d per lb ; fat and tallow, at per lb.
