The trial of two men, named Deasv and Flanagan, who were arrested at Liverpool, in March last, with dynamite in their possession, concluded to-day. The death is announced to-day of Dr Robert Moffatt, the well-known missionary, aged 88. Professor Aldis, of Newcastle, has been appointed to succeed the late Professor Walker in the Mathematical Chair of the Auckland College.

The Statistic predicts that the Australasian colonists will sever their connection with the Empire unless England takes effectual means to prevent the deportation of French convicts to the Pacific. The Saturday Review expects that serious difficulties will arise unless Lord Derby yields lo the representation of the colonies, and it notices that they address England as an equal power. The Hon F. Ashley has explained that fjir Evelyn Wood’s guarantee of preserving order in Cairo only extends to next November,
A meeting at the Mansion House was held ti> invite the Government to nnange for the emigration of 100,000 Lone on families to the colonies next spring.
A reinforcement of 600 French infan_ try lias been sent to Taraatave. Admiral Gal liba succeeds the Admiral now in command of the French squadron there. The latter is suppose! to have retired to satisfy England in regard to the officers of the Dryad affair.
The Press generally commends the attitude of the loyal Irish in the colonies with regard to the Redmonds. The Freemasons’ organ condemns the movement for an independent Grand Lodge in Victoria. Madrid, Aug. 9.
Intelligence having been received by fbe Government that revolutionary designs had been manifested in the ranks of the military stationed near Logrono and Barcelona, large forces of loyal troops have been despatched to those places in view of a possible rising; The recent indications of revolutionary tendencies in the army have caused much alarm, and the Cabinet has in consequence issued a proclamation announcing the suspension of the Constitution now existing in Spain. Later. Hews is to hand from Barcelona that a number of insurgents who had congregated near that town have dispersed, owing to the intelligence that a foree of troops is on its way to the scene. Aug. 10. Telegrams to band from Barcelona, report that considerable agitation prevails in that district in consequence of the revolutionary movement which has lately been manifested, and fears are entertained that a serious insurrection is imminent. Some alarm has been created here by intelligence just to band that several Carlist emissaries are now in the northern provinces, with the object, it is feared of stimulating a revolutionary feeling in the army. Later. A proclamation has been issued t.t-day declaring the province of Catalonia in a stat,* o< siege, (strong bodies of troops have been despatched to the centres of population in consequence
of the dissatisfaction now prevailing in the district, and fears of insurrection. Latest accounts from Seo-de-Urgel report that on the arrival of the loyal troops at that place, a portion of the rebel garrison crossed the border into French territory and the remainder submitted. The inhabitants of this city continue to manifest great loyalty to King Alfonso, and His Majesty was to-day accorded an ovation upon his arrival at the capital. Capetown, Aug. 9.
It is now reported that Oetewayo escaped to the reserved territory in Zululand, and is still at large. Paris, Aug. 10.

The serious anti-Jewish riots continue at Pesth, and similar disturbances have taken place in this city. In both places the rioters defied the civil authorities, and had to be dispersed by military force.
