Tiie death is announced of Mr Dennis O’Connor, M.P. for Sligo County (Ireland), aged 43. July 27.
It is reported that a case of cholera has occurred at the Docks. The rumor has not, however, received any trUf-t----worthy confirmation. Accounts to hand from the hop growing districts are less favorable, bright dry weather being required after the recent heavy rains. The Figaro states that the Captain of fI.M.S. Dryad refuses to admit that Tamatave was in a state of siege. The French authorities there have now re leased the persons arrested. The Emperors of Austria and Germany are to meet at Ischl, a village in Upper Austria, on August'Tth.
The Government will support Sir Stafford Northcotc’s anvmdment that the House will retain its freedom oi judgment in regard to the construction of canals between the Medit°iranean and the Red Sea.
Eleven British soldiers have died from the cholera in Egypt. Cetewayo’s son and the remaining chiefs and fugitives have reached British territory.

The report that a ease of cholera had occurred at the Docks has been ascertained to be without foundation, In the course of an address to the students at Cooper’s Hill Engineering College to-day, Earl Kimberley said he rejoiced at the success which had been achieved by students from Austral's, and hoped that many others from the colonies would join the institution. M. Grevy's reply to the Pope is of a friendly character. It remarks that the cleiicals were the first to attack the Republic.
In Austria the prosecutors have abandoned the charge about the Jews having murdered a C hristian girl in order to have her blood .for a Passover rite, and have demanded the acquittal of the accused.
In the House of Commons Baron de Worms will make an amendment to preserve the perfect freedom of British action in the matter of a second Suez Canal, despite Mr Gladstone’s assurances on the subject. Parh, July 28.
Intelligence is to hand from Tonquin reporting that at a sortie made from Hanoi by the French garrison on the 19th inst, fully 1000 Anamese were killed and only 11 Frenchmen lost their lives.

A rapid decrease in the daily number of deaths from cho'era has been reported, and it is hoped that the epidemic has now been got under control.

The International Exhibition buildings are now in a state ot forwardness, and extend over an area of 25 acres. An exhibition shipment of meat and show of xAustralian stock is looked f <r, and the limn for receiving entries in these classes has been further extended a fortnight,
AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Sydney, July 28. Du&ng a terrible gale a bush fire ignited at Gerringong, near the south coast of this colony, and spread rapidly. Six homesteads were totally destroyed, and villages in the neighborhood of the bush were only saved with great difficulty.

Sheen.—There is hut little enquiry for almost ail kinds of store sheep, and when these are being offered a loss in almost every case is made, taking into consideration the prices ruling some three months ago. They have no transactions of importance to report, Fit sheep are keeping at fair values, and prime mutton may lie quoted at about 2| l Der lb-
Cattle.—There are few lots of store cattle changing hands at present, and there is no dferation in values since they last report'd. Fat cattle are rather in better demand, and prices are fully 1001 b better this vve-k They quote prime heel at about 25s to 27s fid per 1001 b.
Skins.—They catalogued a usual lot last Wednesday, about GOO having been entered. Good full-woolled skins, 3s to 3s 9d ; medium, 2s 61 to 3s.
ENGLISH MARKETS,
London, July 27
New Zealand securities :—5 per e-mt 10-40 loan remains at 106, and 5 per cent 1889 loan at 105£ ; 4| per cent 1879 1904 loan, is quoted at an advance of 2hs ; 4 per cent ’n scribed stock has advance I by ICs, and is quoted at exdiv.
The market for Australian tallow continues dull at 40s for best beef, and 41s
for best mutton.
Colonial breadstuff* are at last quotations, viz. : Adelaide wheal, ex warehouse, 47s ; New Zealand, ditto, 44s to 475; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 335.
