■muau. ’ Messrs Stewart report for therw«Bfc'' last, ' as follows : Horses.—About 50 horses were to day entered at their yards for sale, consisting of a number of first-class mares and geldings and a few light horses .and hacks. A specially good lot, the property of Mr W. O’Bryan, consisting of about a dozen unbroken colts and fillies, and about the same number of mares and geldings, were submitted for sale. These attracted considerable attention, being above the average quality submitted for some time back, and there was a competition for some of the lots, 9 unbroken colts and fillies selling at from £lO to £24 10s, and a few older horses bringing from £l7 to £3l. A number of other lots were also sold at prices somewhat similar to the above quotations. The demand for ,-ood young stocit showed a considerable improvement to-day, which it is to be hoped will continue.

Sheep.—There is little alteration in the market for store sheep, the demand being still very dull, and very little business is being done at present. Tney have no transactions of importance to report. Fat sheep are keeping in fair demand, and prices still keeping good. Prime mutton is worth about 2£d ; at this quotation they have placed a few small lota privately. v; !Cattle.—They have no large transactions to report, ,b«t have an enquiry for a line of good stores. They report a good demand for well forward cattle, but other kinds are difficult to* place at anyth'ng like their value. Fat cattle are still cheap, ’pisme quality beef lining worth only about 2ls per 1001 b. Wool and skins. —They catalogued somewhat under their usual entry last Wednesday, but cleared out the whole of the lots effered, at the following prices, viz. -.--Good woolled cross-breds, from 3s 9d to 4s 6d; medium skins at from 2s to 3s; merinos, from 2s to 3s 3d ; odd lots of mixed wool, from to 6|d ; tallow, from 2jd to 2|d per lb ; hides, from 3£d to 3|d per lb. Wheat is steady at 5s Id. Holders, however, are unwilling to operate, except at higher prices, Town flour per ton is quoted at £ll 10s, 'and country brands at '£lo 5s to £lO 10s. The market is steady. There is nothing doing in freights, and no enquiry.
