GERALDINE BEAGLE CLUB.

A meet of the members of the above Club was held at Kaukapuka on Tuesday last. The previous evening having been wet and Tuesday being an exceptionally fine day the scent was good and the ground in capital going order. The meet was well attended and amongst those present were several ladies. The first draw was made in the old racecourse paddock and resulted in a smart run, including four fences, in an easterly direction, lasting about ten minutes. The haresproved so numeroua that the master decided to try elsewhere, and accordingly there was a general adjournment to the other side of the station, known as Stover. A cast being made, the exertions of the pack were rewarded by about fourteen hares jumping up and travelling in all directions. The hounds keeping steadily to one scent ran a ring round the paddock, and then struck off in the diiection of Mr Angus Macdonald's residence, necessitating the negotiating of a line of ferjees that soon proved who had come to rida, and sent the carriages down the road at a pace that must have astonished the horses drawing them. Puss succeeded in reaching the river-bed when the hounds were whipped off and a fresh hare being started in a return direction, some first-class jumping was the result, the road double being especinlly noticeable, and the pace sufficient for the most fastidious taste On reaching the paddock, where the thistles were very thick, the pack, which had up to this time been running well together, divided, one half still keeping the Hue, surprising puss in a clump of thistles, and scored a kill. A halt was then called until the remainder of the pack could be got in hand, which enabled stragglers and those in carriages to come up. After about a quarter of an hour, spent in recounting the perilous exploits cf the rnn. including a description of an awkward fall sustained by one of the whips, a general move was made down the road and a paddock being investigated, the hounds were speedily away. After proceeding across the paddock they changed the line and ran toward Geraldine. The fences were good and enabled most of the following to give a satisfactory account of themselves, in spite of the fact that one gentleman narrowly escaped landing on a barb wire fence, and another that had not the heart to leave a kercsene tin that his horse was walking about with one leg through. Anojher circuit, and then smart travelling to the boundary of the new racecourse at Orari finished the hunting for the day, characteristics of which were good Ecent.good country and good weatlxr. In accordance with an invitation from Mr , R. Postlethwaite, kindly extended to all

prenent, a move was made for Raukapuka, and lunch, which was appreciated, as it is only possible to be after a smart run with the hounds.
