EXTRAORDINY CONSPIRACY TO MURDER.
An investigation of the circumstances connccte 1 wit’ 1 the murder of Esther Oroghan, who was shot in Deer Street took place at Mullingar on 10th March. An approver named W dsh (says the European Mail), deposed that shoitlj before the murder the prisoner, Anne Croghan, who is a sister of the murdered woman came to him, and said she had been put out of her mother’s hon«c by her sister Esay ; that she was without house or food, and she wanted Easy to be done away with; and that anyone who did the job would be paid for it. He afterwards got ten shillings from h'r, and he applied to certain persons for assistance to murder Fesy. The first man be spoke to was named Lanisay, who said that the jab could be well done, and that there would be plenty got to earn money on it. Walsh also consulted the prisoner Cain and a man named Lawrence Kenny. The latter consented to shoot the w -man, and Cain agreed to accompany himThe men met frequently iu a public-house in Mullingar to discuss the iplan of the job. Anne Croghan complained of the delay,. and asked Walsh if he was going to let it go altogether by, and wag not going to get anything done. He said lie had spoken to men who would do it if they got money. She said »ha would give them all she could get. A man named Michael Kelly lent Walsh a revolver which he gave to Kenny, who proceeded to the house where Esther Croghan lived with her mother. He cmie back soon after and gave Lanissy and Walsh an account of how he had committed the murder, and asked was it not well done 1 Walsh said it was. She could only have lived a few minutes, Cain, who accompanied Kenny, remained outside the house to render assistance if necessary, but Kenny fired five or six shots into the b«dy of the unfortunate woman and no assistance was required. Kenny never got any money for the murder. He stated to Walsh that, although he shot another woman in the house, he did not intend to do more than frighten her. Kenny is undergoing penal servitude for another crime, and ho will be placed on trial with Anne Croghan and Cain. The Kelly who supplied the revolver is believed to be the man whose name was mentioned in connection with the Mitamstrasna massacre.
