TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A special meeting of the above Committee to consider a report by a Subcommittee on Mr Steward’s schedule of questions on School Committees, and Rev Mr Hamilton’s application re religious instruction in the public school, was held last evening. Present—Messrs Mackay (Chairman), Blyth, Brown, Kirk and Gray. The Sub-Committee consisting of the Chairman, and Messrs Grav, Kirk, and Pearpoint brought up their report on Mr Steward’s Bid, and it Avas proposed by Mr Brown, seconded by Mr Blyth, and carried —“ That the report of Mr Steward’s Bill be adopted, and Mr Steward be supplied with the information.’ It was proposed by Mr Gray, seconded by Mr Blyth and carried—“ That agreeable to the wishes of the Rev Mr Hamilton as representing the deputations of clergymen, a sub-Committee be appointed to ask the teachers if they are willing to impart religious instruction on the plan suggested by the deputation of clergymen, and if they are agreeable that this Committee allow them to impart such instruction.” It was decided that the Secretary write to the Board of Education for information re Sir W. Fox’s book on Temperance. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the mee ting.
