A WEST AFRICAN MURDER.

Between the night of the 2nd and the 3rd January a murder was commited under circumstances of great brutality at Aboosu, in Warsaw. Mr John Barrow, the victim, who held the position of European accountant to the African Gold Coast Mining Company, lived in a small house by himself, but situated pretty close to another. The murderers made their entrance through the side of the bed-cham-ber and struck Mr Barrow while sleeping in his bed. He appears to have mabe an attempt to ward off the blows, as one of his Lands was badly cut. An axe and knife was used, and with the former the deceased’s head was nearly severed from the body. The murderers opened the safe with the deceased’s key, and took from it £9O in specie, with which they decamped. Four men have been arrested. Three of them are in the employ of the company, and the fourth had recently been dismissed, and had been heard to utter threats against the life of the deceased. The four prisoners are natives of Elmina. His Excellency the Governor passed up to Axim in H.M.S, Pioneer on Feb. Bth to inquire personally into the matter. He has since returned to Accra, but is expected to return to Coast prior to the trial, which will probably commence about March sth. The prisoners are new in Fort St. Jago at Elmina.
