TEMUKA MECHANICS’ INSTITUTE.
A meeting of the Committee of the above Institute was held last Friday evening in the Reading Room. Prepent—Messrs J. S. Hayes (President), Wood, Lawson, O’Halloran, Aspmall, McS. Gentlemuu, Blytb, Lee, Gray, and Ashwell. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. librarian’s report. The Librarian’s report, enclosing £8 4s 7d (subscriptions since last meeting), was considered, and the Librarian’s salary and commission, amounting to £7 16s 6d, and the annual subscription to the Lyttelton Times, £2 12s, passed for payment. reynolds’s paper. On the motion of Mr McS. Gentlemun, it was resolved to endeavor to obtain Reynolds’s newspaper from Dunedin until it could be sent direct from the London agents, THE TRUSTEESHIP. The President was requested to take the necessary legal steps which would constitute him a trustee of the Institute in the place of Mr Mendelson, deceased. MISCELLANEOUS. Several members of the Committee mentioned that the Reading Room was habitually used by residents in the district who were not members. Resolved —‘ That the Librarians’ attention be called to the matter, that ho be requested to use more vigilance, and that a copy of the rules be made and bung in a conspicuous place.’ Mr O’Halloran drew the attention of the Committee to the fact of the papers coming by various routes, and at vai ious times and that in consequence many were lost. The Secretary was instructed to request that all papers should be sent by one route. . . VOTE OF THANKS. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
