Intelligence is to iiaml to day from Halifax (Nova Scotia), that mucli alarm is felt there in consequence of a report which is current that some Fenian torpedo vessels have sailed from Boston for Halifax. It is feared that an , attack upon the’ shipping at that port is intended. May ‘J. Administrative reforms in Armenia are now being proceeded with by the Turkish Government. Mustapha Effenlias been appointed Governor of the province of Lebanon, the population of which is chiefly Christians, and the appointment has been ratified by the Powers.
Her'Majesty the Queen returned to Windsor Castle yesterday. Her Majesty’s health is improving, and all the effects of her late accident at the Castle are being gradually overcome. It has transpired that M. Kcrgaric, French Consul at Thinai, is the bearer of a despatch from President Grevy to the Regent of Annum regarding the claim of France in Tonquin. The document, after referring to the circumstances under which France guaranteed the King of Annam against China by the treaty of Saigon in 187 d, declares that the impotence of government which has been displayed by the Regent cousfcata? France to adopt measures to secure a better administration of the Kingdom, and in this view the French Government have definitely decided to occupy the province of Tonquin and to assume the control of tire Anamese foreign relations, and lo collect the Customs duties and taxes. President Grevy offers to grant an annual subsidy to the King as compensation if these terms are accepted, AUSTRALIAN CABLE.
