GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Council was held yesterday. Present-Messrs C. G. Tripp (Chairman), J. Talbot, J. 0. McKerrow, A Sherratt, and W. Moody. The Committee appointed at last meeting re Water Supply, .brought up their report, and also a draft of a Bill. The report was adoo'ed, and the following olteration in the Bill was made by resolu tion—'That Mr Wynn-Williams be instructed to alter the borrowing powers in tl-e Bill as to vest them in the County alone, but providing full and ample power to the Council to rate any Dishict for the interest and sinking fund of any sum raised for the purpose of providing works in that District; the reason for (his alteration being that the limited nature of the borrowing for special districts wou d interfere with the power of the Council to borrow at reasonable rates;' It was also resolved-' That the thanks of the Council be tendered to the SubCommittee for the trouble they took in <ho inntter.' ~ „, „ , , , On < ! ■■ «)ni ; on of Mr Talbot, seconded bv Mr Sherratt, the following special order was agreed to- < Whereas an alteration of boundaries has been effected between the Geraldine and Temuka Road Districts, and, in consequence thereof, it being requisite under Section 13 of the Road Boards Act, 1882, for the Council to dissolve the said Road Boards, and to make provision for the election of the new Boards, it is therefore hereby ordered that the general elections to be held by the said Boards in accordance withbection 31 of the said Road Boards Act, is hereby deemed by the Council to be sufficient provision for the dissolution and election of the said Boards under Section 13 of the sm'd Act.' The following notices of motion were then handed in for the next meeting . Mr Talbot to move - ( That the Council take over the maintenance of bridges over the rivers on main line of road m the countv:' Mr Tripp to move-'That at the next meeting a rate be struck to meet the wants of the Council' Mr Moodv to move—' That at the nest meeting the" local bod : es attached to the Rangitata Bridge be asked to pay the half of the cost of repairs to the bridge Mr Moody to move— That instead of adding to the present overburdened and overgo veined system of locnl government it is considered more advkable for theCouncil to abdicate in favor of Road Boards.' , , Slaughterhouse licenses were granted to W. J, Newton and J. Talbot. The annual balance sheet as audited was produced and signed, as required by the Act. Mr McKerrow mover?. Mr ialbot seconded-'That the clerk's salary be increased to £2OO per annum from Ist, March last.' Cariied. A number of accounts were passed for payment. It was proposed by Mr Moody seconded by Mr McKerrow and carried—'That the next regular meeting of the Council be held on the first Monday in August, any business requiring spec'al attention to be referred to the members in town.'
