AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS

An unreserved sale of about 300 bigs of malt, or 1200 bushels, secured from the fire which recently occurred at Mr Franks’s brewery, was held by Mr Ollivier on the brewery premises last Saturday. The grain, though more or less damaged and unfit for brewing purposes, was nevertheless suitable as food for cattle or pigs, and readily found purchasers. The attendance was good, and the bidding though not very brisk was nevertheless steady, and a fair price was realised. The refreshments were provided gratis, and freely partaken of.

Messrs Maclean and Stewart, of Tiraaru, report for the past week, ending Saturday as follows : Horses —An average number of 52 draught, light harness horses and hacks, were to-day received at their yards for sale. They have to report a fairly good demand for young heavy draughts, but for old and inferior there is but little enquiry. The bad weather experienced during the week has had the effect of stopping almost all farming operations, and in consequence the demand for working hoises suffered. At their yards to-day, they sold 18 head at the following prices—From L2b to L 33 for heavy draughts, and from £lB to L 23 for medium sorts ; a few ordinary hacks were sold at from LlO to Ll 6,

Sheep—The weather during the week has been such as Jto-'slo-p all business being done in-store sheep, and they have no transactions to report. A large sale of store sheep, advertised on account of Messrs Grant and Aitkin, for last Tuesday, had to be postponed until Tuesday, the Bth, and other transactions pending are postponed meantime. Fat sheep in in fair demand, but prices are rather easier during the last week.

Cattle There has been almost nothing done in store cattle during the week, and there is no change to note ia the state of the market since their last report. Fat cattle—Present values are about 20s per 1001 b, AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. • Adelaide, May 5. Wheat is steady at 5s 6d ; flour io quiet at £l2 10s for town, and £ll 10s to £ll 15s for country brands. Sydney, May 4. New Zealand wheat, 4s 3d ; New Zealand - oats, 2s 9d ; maize, 3s; Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, £35 per ten. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, May 4. Colonial bread stuffs and tallow are unchanged. Hides are dull of sale and slow at previous prices.
