A HARE HUNT.
Amongst the many other animals which the floods disturbed in their quiet homes, was a poor innocent, inoffensive little hare. The poor little ereature, probally thinking that the promise of which the rainbow is the bond, was about to be broken, rushed wildly out of the water, and down the main street of Temuka. It may be that it thought it could make out another Noah’s Ark somewhere, and possibly secure a berth in it, or it may be that it did not' know what it was doing or where it was going, like many other brainless creatures that go about this world without having any definite aim or object in view. In its wild career it broke one of its legs and this added to its misfortunes. The dogs of the town on seeing poor unsophisticated pussy jogging along on three feet were not moved by pity for its sorry plight but rushed after it in full pursuit. A regular chase was the result till at last the poor little hare rushed for protection into a man’s arms near the Royal Hotel.
