AGRICULTURAL.
Pliny, the Roman agricultural writer, assigns plentiful crops in bis days to good ploughing. ' What/ says he, * was the the cause of this plentifulness t Was it because in those times the lairds were cultivated by the hands even of generals ? The earth, as it is natural to suppose, delighted to be ploughed with a share adorned with laurels, or by a ploughman who had been honored with triumphs. Oi' was it because these men ploughed their fields with the same diligence that they pitched their camps, and secured their corn with the same care that they framed their armies for battle ?' The Paris milkmen are in trouble. The police have made a successful raid on their head-quarters. The cans are all unloaded in a large warehouse in the city, and 25 policemen were posted outside, loop-holes having been made in
the wall to enable them to see what was going on inside. Ju.Bt when the milkmen had brought in the water and were beginning to make their customary mixture, the police rushed in and caught them, They were found to have a large quantity of bicarbonate of lime, and also a contrivance for remlving the sealed covers.
