MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in t|e Road Board Office, Peel Forest, oh Friday, the 21 st inst. Present—Messrs G. J. Dennistoun, R. Mackay, C. G, Tripp and J. Heney. The Chairman being absent, Mr C. G. Tripp was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Tenders for the following works were considered No. 5 Contract, Forming at Raincliff —N. P. Bi (icefield, £874 ; Thomas Corkery, £800; James McCoo], £l4O ; Joseph Wharton, £IBO (accepted.)

No. 6, Metalling on Mount M'cliael road—Stephen Courtiuy, £B7 ; James McCool, £8() ; N. P. Bracefield, £BO ; Thomas Corkery, £79 ; Joseph Wharton, £77 ; Patrick Burke, £65 (accepted.) The correspondence for the month was read as follows : Prom the Clerk to the G'-raldine County Council, requesting to be furniched with a statement of the number of eggs and young birds paid for by the Board under the provisions of the Small Birds Nuisance Act.

The Clerk was directed to reply, stating that no money had been paid by the Board for that purpose.

From the Timaru Hospital Commis sioners, forwarding- a statement of receipts and expenditure for the two years ending 31st December, 1882. From the Property Tax Cotmnis sioner, stating that it has been found necessary to extend the time for completing the valuation rolls to the end of April, consequently the election of members of the Road Boards could not be held in the first week in May, as provided for in the Road Board Act. From the Ashburton County Council, requesting the pleasure of the Board’s attendance at opening of the Rangitata tiaffic bridge on Monday, the 28rd inst.

From the Registrar-General, Wellington, forwarding forms to be filled up showing receipts and expenditure of the Board ,for the year ending 31st March last.

The Clerk was directed to fill up the forms, and forward them to the Registrar-General, as requested. From the Geraldine Road Board, stating that it is the intention of the Geraldine Board to improve the Rangitata Station road, and to charge the Mount Peel Road Board with half the cost, as in terms of the agreement between the two Boards. Resolved— * That the Clerk acknowledge the receipt of the letter, and refer the Geraldine Board to the Mount Peel Boaru’s letter of tne 20th February, 1882, declining any further responsibility for work done on the road,’

From Mr T. W. Marcbant, in reference to the Opuha bridge.

The Clerk was directed to call tenders for the work immediately the piles were landed and approved of. From Mr James Gregon, declining to carry out No. 1 and 2 contracts. ResoUed ‘ That his deposits be forfeited, and that tenders be called for the work for next Board meeting.’ From Mr Charles Pye, asking for leave of absence for a few days. The request was granted.

The Clerk was directed to write to the Colonial Secretary, requesting a reply to the Board’s letter of March 19, with respect to the boundaries of the district. The Overseer was instructed to inspect the Clayton bridge, and have nny necessary repairs done ; also to inspect the crossing of <ha creek in Cattle Valley, with the object of building a bridge. Resolved—* That pnblic notice be given calling the annual meeting of ratepayers oi, May Ist, in accordance with the Road Board Ordinance, 1882.

Accounts to the amount of £256 8s 6d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
