Auckland, April 6. At the criminal sea ion to day Mahuki and 22 of his followers were found puilty ot assaulting a native named Te Haere, and one of Mr Hursthouse's party. Mahuki completely ignored the whole proceedings. Later.

The jury returned a verdict of guilty against Mahuki and his followers for assault on Aubin, storekeeper, and acquitted them of a charge of riot in Alexandra. The other charges were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecutor. Makuki and Tini were sentenced to 12 months with hard labor, Putaki and Ngawharo to Dine months. Mahuki said the sentence was just, but God and Te Whiti had the power to save him.
