The Temuka Leader. THURSDAY, MARCH 29, 1883. THE PROPOSED BOROUGH COUNCIL.
There is nothing heard about this litely. Forty-eight hours after the first meeting was held all the information was collected, and a couple of days afterwards a Committee was formed at a public meeting to carry the thing through. What is the Committee doing ? More than a week has elapsed and no petition, so far as we know, has been put in circulation yet. This is not as it ought to be ; and unless the Committee goes to work at once, they will have people dissatisfied with them. THE PROPERTY TAX. Owing to the Road Boards having agreed to accept the assessment made for the Property Tax purposes, some complications have arisen. People thought that, as usual, Road Boards W >uld hold Assessment Courts for the p irpose of hearing objections to the rate roll, but it appears (hat this is not the case. The Board of Reviewers learning that some cases of hardship had occurred through this, telegragheJ to Wellington to see what could be done, and received power to hold another Court, hear such objections as shall come before them, and do justice to everyone. With this end in view the Board will sit again at Temuka on Tuesday, the 3rd of April, when they will consider all objections. Persons who have objections to make, must do so in writing, and lodge them with the Clerk of the Court any day between this and next Tuesday. There will not be another Court held tor three years, so that makes the matter more important. Any persons desiring to be put on the list of ratepayers ought to take this opportunity of being put on.
