PUBLIC MEETING.
A public meeting was held last night in the Oddfellows’ Hall for the purpose cf taking into consideration the advisability of forming the town into a borough. Mr E. F. Gray occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance. The Chairman, after having read the advertisement calling the meeting, explained its object.
Mr Franks moved —‘ That in tho opinion of this meeting it is desirable that the town of Temuka be brought under the provisions of the Mun'cipal Corporations Act, 1876, as a borough.’ Mr Pearpoint seconded the motion, and after considerable discussion, in which Mr John Talbot spoke against it, it was carried, only one hand being held up against it. Mr Job Brown moved— 8 That a committee be formed for the purpose of taking the necessary steps, the committee to consist of Messrs Gray, Ollivier, Franks, Blyth, Job Brown, Kirk, Pearpoint, Lee, Quinn and J. T. M. Hayhurst.’
