AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Ma? ;h 6. The local manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company reports of the Melbourne Grain Market as follows Wheat (shipping) is firmer, at 5s 4d to 5s 5d ; malting barley has a slightly improved tendency at 5s 3d to 5s 7d ; New Zealand oats, feeding, 2s lOd to 3s 3d ; milling, 3s 3d to 3s ,sd. Prices for barley are well maintained. New Zealand oats under bond are quoted at 2s 3d to 2s lOd. LONDON SEED TRADE. Messrs John Shaw and Sons, of 37 Mark Lane London, E.C., report through their agent, Mr Leonard Blake, of Christchurch, that the market during the fortnight ending January 25th, was in a very excited state. As might have been expected, the universal shortness of crops, and the acknowledged highness of stocks, were producing their natural effect in enhancing prices all round. Red clover seeds must be written fully at 3s to 4s dearer, and white clover from 6s to 8s per cwt dearer, at which advance a good many purchases were made by speculators, the impression being that prices would go a good bit higher ere long. Fine alsyke was from 2g to 3s per cwt dearer, and choice trefoil Is cwt dearer. Foreign Italian was quiet at late rates. Canary, although iu slow request was firm. Hemp seed was dull. Rape was firm.
