The Temuka Leader. TUESDAY, MARCH 13, 1883. THE BUTTER AND CHEESE FACTORY.

The erection of the Butter and Cheese Factory building is going on satisfactorily. This, no doubt, will bo learned with much satisfaction throughout the di&trict, as it is now generally admitted that it is bound to do a lot of good. There are, however, a few things which we would urge upon our readers. The erection of the factory will prove useless unless the people will supply it with milk. If the supply of milk is insufficient, the factory cannot succeed, It would be well, therefore, for farmers to take this into consideration at once and get good cows, so that they can be ready to supply the milk when the factory starts, about October next. They ought remember also that the better the breed of cows, tho better it

will pay them to keep them, It will cost as much to keep and milk a bid cow as it will a good one, and consequently the sooner they begin to get good cows the better it will be for themselves. We hear that there is ore man in this district who intends to turn all his land into a dairy farm, and to put on it the best cows he can get. He is a. sensible man, and his example might well be followed by other?, Another thins,' which .we.wish, to point out is the absolute necessity for the Company to have money. They cannot get on without it. There is at present £640, due on.sbares, and they have decided to charge shareholders interest at a rate of ten per cent for moneys which shall remain due of them after the 31st of this mouth. Shareholders would therefore do well to pay up the amount due of them before that date. They must pay it any rate ; and by paying now they will put the Company in a good financial position, and they will save themselves interest on it, We trust the shareholders will take the hint, and give the Company sufficient money to carry on the work without having to borrow any. If they do this, it will be a benefit to the institution and to themselves.
