DOING' A WEST-END TAILOR.

Some two months ago a well-dressed man called at a West-End tailor's, and presenting a card of Lord Blank's said that nobleman had recommended.him to patronise that shop. He was measured for two suits of clothes, which'after being duly-tried on were sent 1o a private hotel near St James street, where he was stopping. The next day he called a*, the tmlor's.said the things fitted him admirably and insisted upou paying for them there and then, He also ordered another suit and paid the tailor some £3O in Bank of England notes. A third time he went to the shop, und whilst looking at some patterns asked, as if he only, -j ust remembered, whether the London banks closed at three o'clock on Saturday, which it hnppened to be. The customer was in despair. He wanted to run over to Paris that night, and as the establishment he banked with was in the city he had not time to get a cheque, which was for £l2O, cashed. As a matter of course the tailor offered to cash the cheque, and it was passed on to the tailor's bank on the Monday, and returned the next day with the words 'No account' attached to it. And to make matters worse the notes paid by the swindbr were found to be stopped. It is needless to say that when a reference was made to Lord Blank, the latter said ha knew nothing of the gentleman who had favored the tailor with his patronage. .'
