DEATH IN THE STOCKINGS.
Among the many dangers, seen and unseen, by which wo are surrounded, the St James’s Gazette observes that of poisonous dyes in articles of clothing is not the least formidable. Some gvjdppga was given oil tiiis point at a coroner’s
enquiry held at Mile-end Old Town, respecting the death of a boy 8 years who was killed by his orocVngs. On coming home the other day from school, he complained of a pain in big foot. As the pain got no better he was taken a few days later to a doctor, but unfortunately the mischief was gone beyond the reach of medical assistance, and two hours later lie was dead. It appeared that some time ago he had grazed the skin of his heel by wearing a tight boot ; and the dye from some woollen stockings he was wearing entered the wound. The cause of his death was, the doctor stated, blood-poisoning, originally due to the injury to the heel and to the stocking dye. The jury returned a verdict according to the medical evidence, and the coroner mentioned the fact that some striking'cases had come under his notice illustrating the danger of wearing stocking heavily dyed with poisonous matter.
