MELBOURNE MARKETS. The N.Z.L, and M.A. Company report, under date Melbourne, January 10th, as follows - WOOL, The sales continue to be well attended, and during the week a good business has been done at rates fully maintaining those previously ruling. There is a keen demand for superior wools, and high rates can be realised for same. At our last sale we submitted 3008 bales to an excellent ndance of buyers, who competed strongly throughout, enabling us to make a good clearance at satisfactory rates. SHEEPSKINS. We have sold a full supply of all sorts, and have experienced a brisk demand for anything like good skins. The major portion, however, of the arrivals, now consist of pelts. We quote—lamb skins, Is 6d to 2s each butchers’ pelts up to 2s -id; lambs’ pelts up to Is ; dry skins, 3a to 9s; station skins (in bales), to 7d per lb. HIDES. Wo have moved off a good average quantity at late rates, there being a steady demand for all well conditioned lots, free from offal and oars, the tanners competing fcr such with spirit. We sold a prime lot of cows hides up to 3d per lb. We quote —Green ox hides, 16s to 30s each ; green cow hides, up to 2|d per lb ; calf skins, 3d to 4d ; New Zealand hides, up to 4|d ; kip Indei 2?rd to 3d ; Victorian salted hides, to 3|d ; do (extra heavy), up to 4d. ORA IX. Wheat—During the earlier portion of the week the demand was brisk, 4s ICd to 4s being obtained. Today the market was somewhat easier, but we obtained 4s 9£d for prime samples. Prices closed at 4s 9d to 4s Old, but the tendency is downwards.

Oats —The large clearing sale of discolored New Zealand oats, have to some extent influenced prices. Victorian quitted at 2s lOd, for Calcutta up to fair new Tartarian, New Zealand range widely from 3s Gd to 4s Id, according to quality, duty paid. Barley —A brisk demand for malting samples, but the supply is still li uitod, sales at 4s to 4s 4d, according to quality. New Capo placed readily at Gs Gd, r.UEADFTUI'TS. ETC. Flour—A very fair trade done during the week, the high price demanded for wheat has directed shippers’ attention to Hour, and some 200 tons have been taken up for export, £lO 2s Gd to i: 10 5s arc now current rates. Bran—'A good business at Is to Is Id. Pollard—A fair inquiry. Sales at Is Id.
