GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, Present — Messrs Postlsthwaite (Chairman), Wm, Upton Slack, Wm Deßenzy, John Kellund and F. R. Flatman.

MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. RESOLUTIONS. Proposed by Mr Slack, seconded by Mr Deßenzy, and carried—‘That this Board approves of the suggestion, made by their Chairman re maintainance of the Rangitata road, and agree that this resolution together with the suggestions be forwarded to the Mount Peel Road Board for their approval.’—carried

CORRESPONDENCE. Letters from the Geraldine County Council were read.

From Mr Wigley, consenting to the road from the junction of the Kukahn Valley road to the boundary of Ford and Newton’s property. With reference to Russell's Bridge, it was proposed by Mr Flatman, seconded by Mr John Kelland, and carried— ‘That in consequence of the great expenditure of a new bridge at Russell’s Creek, the Board will meet Mr Finlay and try and arrange to turn the creek to suit the road, and that Mr Wm Moore be asked to attend also.’

It was resolved—‘ That this Board under sub-section lof section 5 of The Licensing Act Amendment Act 1882, ap point Mr C. E. Sherratt, the Returnng Officer for Gera'dine Licensing District,’ From Mr J. W. Taylor, asking to have a culvert put in and three or four terraces eased, from Taylor’s to the Rangitata ; also, drawing the Board’s attention to (he expensive crossing (ho Government have put in over tit© railway near Taylor’s viz, cattle (raps, fencing etc. From Mr John Mundell, and about 90 ratepayers, forwarding a petition to have the road widened and blinded from Peckham’s corner, to Ornri Railway station. Resolved—‘ That the Board considers that with use and patience the road will soon be in good order.’

From the Secretary of the Timaru llarbor Board, dated 29th Dec., calling the Board’s attention to the necessity of an election of one person to represent the Geraldine Road Dislrict on the Timaru Harbor Boaid, to be held on Monday, the 12th day of February, 1883. Proposed by Mr F, Flatman, seconded by Mr W. Deßenzy, and carried- ‘That Mr Caleb E. Sherratt be appointed Returning Officer for the election of n member to represent the District on the Timaru Harbor Board ; ar.d that there be three polling places in the District, viz , Geraldine. Resolved — 1 That a reprensative will attend, if possible.’ OVERSEERS REPORT. The Overseer’s report was read and the following resolutions passed thereon : —(1) That Mr Huffey is to pay extra cost the Board has been put to for Clerk of Works ; (2) lenders for widenning road near Conmdy’s ; (3) Wells’ application to stand over; (4) gorse question stand over until after harvest ; (5) Russell’s bridge to stand over ; (6) Overseer apply again to Mr Wigley for information re diversion ; (7) Board annrove of surface men going harvos'ing • (8) Overseer to give notice to Mr Rood that if nily more trees are damaged in the bush the contractor will forfeit bis deposit and be sued for the damages. STOPPAGE OF ROADS. Resolved ‘That the Clerk write to the manager of the Arow henua Station. Mr Wigley, and the Bank of New Zealand re stoppage of certain roads. RENT. Resolved— 1 That Mr George Palmer be requested to pay his rent, otherwise the Board will take steps to recover.’ DEPUTATION. Mrs Tatam waited upon the 80-rd, together with Mr Amos Shcrraft to speak for her, asking to have a road laid off to her section in Pleasant Valley. R-solved— ‘ That the property being private property leading to ber house the Board have no power to grant her request. SANITARY. The Inspector of Nuisances’ report was read and considered, and was considered satisfactoiy ; the sanitary state of the District being good.’ ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £587 14s 9d were passed for payment. ADJOURNMENT. The Board then adjourned until Tuesday, the 6th day of March, 1883, at 10 a.m.
