A serious collision occurred to-day in the Mersey between the Inman lino steamship City of Brussels and another vessel. The former sank in deep water shortly after the collision, and ten persons were drowned.

The Marine Board inquiry into the circumstances attending the wreck of the steamship New England, at Clarence River Heads on the 27th ult., concluded to-day. The Court found that the vessel was lost through the negligence of Pilot Smith, and ordered that his certificate should be cancelled. Jan, 9.

The general Anglican Synod met today, and appointed a Committee to report with regard to the election to the vacant Bishopric of Sydney.

The Dunedin Municipal frauds are attracting considerable attention here. Three well-known Melbourne brokers, Were and Son, Welder, and Griffiths, have been victimised to the extent of £3500. It has been ascertained th»t Massey's wife sold Griffiths waterworks debentures in the name of Louisa Allen. The coupons were subsequently paid in London. Later Messrs Were and Sou sold fifteen debentures, paying cash to

the amount of £1595, which the wifa accepted in the name of Lucy Brown. Massey then obtained a draft on New Zealand for £61)0. Welder also purchased thirteen debentures, paying £1365 cash, and Massey got a draft for £llsO on Christchurch.
